At Cottonwood Kennels our main emphasis is on working with retrievers for the avid hunter. Head trainer Chad Besemer has been training retrievers, judging and running dogs in AKC Hunt Tests and Guiding Waterfowl / Upland Bird Hunts for over a decade! Thus he knows what it takes to build a well rounded hunting retriever. He is able to challenge your dog in many different places and settings. He also encourages the owners to become involved in training sessions with their dog so they can learn how to handle the dog. He trains year around so your dog will see many different hunting situations.
Puppy Program:
This is a two-week program that introduces your puppy to birds, gunfire, water and retrieving. (under 6 months of age)
Obedience:
This is approximately a 1 - 1 1/2 month course. In that time your dog will have all the basic obedience commands including: off lead obedience, collar conditioning, introduction to birds, gun fire, retrieving.
Started:
The next program is a 3-4 month course depending on the dog.Your do will be force fetched,collar conditioned and field work. When you get your dog home you will be able to take it hunting with confidence.

Finished:
Retrievers: This is more for the avid waterfowl hunter. Your retriever will learn hand signals for blind retrieves, multiple marks, and rock steady in the blind.This program takes considerably more time. The estimated time your dog will be in training is 7 to 12 mths. After this program your dog will be able to handle any kind of challenge it may encounter while hunting.
Advanced:
This program is for running the higher-level hunt tests and some field trials. In this program, we put the emphasis on the finer details that are needed to run hunt tests successfully.
Hunting:
We also offer to the dogs that have been through the started program,a hunting package. At Bad River Bucks and birds where I guide at through the fall and winter, I will use your dog to guide with. This is some of the best experience and most birds that your dog will see.

All shots must be up to date : A copy of vaccination records must be brought upon arrival of you dog. |
